Title of Position: Exceptional Children’s Program Behavior Support Assistant

 

Reports To: Director of Exceptional Children

 

Purpose: Will serve PRC-29 students in coordination with the Exceptional Children’s Program

 

Overview of Job Responsibilities:

Behavior Support Assistant (BSA) will serve Sampson County Schools PRC-29 students in coordination with the Behavior Support/Autism Team and the other EC behavior support assistant for the county. The BSA will be assigned to the students who are demonstrating chronic bouts of misbehavior. Each assignment will be monitored for effectiveness and need. BSA would establish rapport with students and intervene with problematic behaviors through observation of students in various settings. The BSA will implement strategies that have been developed to address these behaviors. BSA will collect baseline data to be used as information for FBAs and BIPs. Interventions based on the FBA and BIP will be explored through consultation between the EC Director, the classroom teacher, and the Behavior Support/Autism Team. Time spent on individual cases will be adjusted by the Behavior Specialist in response to the effectiveness of the interventions provided. Adjustments to caseloads will also be made as needed. Evidence/research-based interventions will be used to help students function productively in the classroom, in transition, and during a crisis. The BSA will establish a working relationship with teachers and offer assistance as needed. The BSA will work with students to teach appropriate social skills and study habits. Progress will be monitored through extensive and detailed daily records of visits. These records will include data on interventions and strategies, time in school, time on task, and academic improvement. BSAs documentation and data will be reviewed weekly by the EC Director. Behavior Support Assistant may be asked to attend relevant IEP meetings, providing assistance with benchmarks, implementation of behavior plans, and crisis intervention plans. BSA will participate in relevant staff development and be considered part of the Behavior Support Team.
