Upward Bound Program

 

Position Summary

The Upward Bound (UB) program with Sampson County Schools is an U.S. Department of Education federally funded TRIO Program. The UB Program annually serves 60 high school students enrolled in Sampson County Schools. The Upward Bound program is designed to provide pre-college services and activities for eligible participants, to assist students in successfully completing their secondary school education and enrolling in postsecondary education.  The Administrative Assistant reports directly to the Upward Bound Program Director.

 

Job Description

The Upward Bound Program Administrative Assistant is responsible for:

 

• Providing clerical and administrative support to the UB Program Director and office.
• Overseeing UB office management (answering the office telephone, greeting the public, checking and distributing the mail, ordering office supplies, maintaining office calendar of events, etc.).
• Assisting the Program Director in administering the budget (maintaining expenses database, processing check requests, reconciliation of travel expenses, etc.).
• Overseeing the maintenance of program participant files (active and alumni). This includes filing into individual folders and updating the active files each term.
• Reserving facilities for office events and programs.
• Assisting the Program Director in planning office staff events including trainings, retreats, and celebrations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Education

• Associate Degree in Business or related fields or two years of college preferable; work experience may be used in lieu of education.

 

Minimum Qualifications

• Knowledge of and/or experience working with low-income, first-generation students or related work experience.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent clerical, organizational, and planning skills.

• Computer and associated software skills.

Salary

$15,500

 

 

The Upward Bound program with Sampson County Schools is an U.S. Department of Education 5-year federally funded grant project.  Sampson County Schools has been awarded Upward Bound project funding for September 1, 2022 – August 31, 2027.  Continued funding after August 31, 2027 is contingent upon grant renewal.
